Literature Text

Everyone is born and everyone dies,
In between living in a world of lies.
The most important goal that drives,
Is searching for a meaning in their lives.
Spending a large amount,
And learning many things that don't really count.
Then wanting to earn money doing what they adore,
Wanting all that and much more.
Trying to fill that strange empty space,
Buying nice things and vying for first place.
Many attempts tread on landmines,
While precious goals fail to meet their deadlines.
They all want more and more everyday,
But all end up dying anyway.
I was thinking about what I could do in my boring math class where I don't really haffta pay any attention (yet) and I suddenly felt like writing a poem. This is what came out in about an hour or so.

Interesting and...cynical ;)

Everyone is born and everyone dies,
In between living in a world of lies.
I feel that the word 'lies' here is a bit too abrupt a stab. I think slowly introducing it, or as the adage goes "show do not tell" says, would be more effective.
The most important goal that drives,
Is searching for a meaning in their lives.
An audacious claim. Is this truly the most important goal though? In my limited experience, it seems as though most people go through life without ever thinking about "meaning in their lives..." (If they did, the world would be a much better place I think)
Spending a large amount,
And learning many things that don't really count.
Then wanting to earn money doing what they adore,
What is wrong with doing what they love?
Wanting all that and much more.
Trying to fill that strange empty space,
I agree with you...for me at least, when I can't figure out the meaning of my life, getting buried in lots of stuff helps
Buying nice things and vying for first place.
Many attempts tread on landmines,
:)landmines
While precious goals fail to meet their deadlines.
They all want more and more everyday,
But all end up dying anyway.
How cynical...Do you mean to say that all that we do in life is meaningless because we will die at the end? If so, what is the meaning of life?

You got me thinking :) What really is the meaning of life?
